Louis Dodge's mother, was Lila Haskell was born about 1842 in Burlington County, Iowa as Lila J. Haskell, daughter of Daniel Haskell and Margaret Farmer. Louis' father was Henry L. Dodge, born about 1839/40 in Tennessee.

Louis had a brother, Henry born about 1868 in Iowa and a sister, Lettie born about 1864 in Iowa, this per 1870 US Census. He also had a sister Helen, born about 1874 in Iowa and a brother Frank, born about 1879 in Iowa, this per 1880 US Census.

Henry L. Dodge, was born about 1839/40 in Tennesee, a printer by trade. He was the son of John S. Dodge, born about 1817 in New York, a lawyer in his early career and Justice of the Peace in his later years. Henry's mother was Sarah, born about 1821 in Indiana. Henry had a sister, Martha Jane born about 1842 in Indiana, this all from the 1850, 1860 and 1870 census.
