Black Donald Mine and Dodges
We have a small data base of Dodges from Black Donald and a few other Dodges who we think may be connected. The initial information in this data base came from the book "The Black Donald Story" by Rita Quilty. Since that initial data was entered, we have found that the name LaPlaunte should actually be LaPlante. We have received additional information from Tracey Sheedy, Gary Boivin and Yvonne LaPlante Michaud If you have any information on the surname, SHEEDY, please contact Tracey.

When you view this data base, if you can help us correct and/or add any information, please e-mail us.

Persons Surnames
As far as we know, the first Dodge to go to Black Donald Creek was Frank Dodge, Sr. He married Lucy Felicity Laplaunte. They had eleven children but only two of them are listed by name in the book. Those two were Frank and Jane. Frank married JANE Laplaunte, and they had four children. William b.1904, Adolph, Lucy, Alfred.

Jane married Omer St. Michael and they had 8 children.

Other Dodge names here were
Alfred
Ambrose
Jim
Jeremiah
Jerry(could this be nickname for Jeremiah?)
Earl
William
Wilfrid
Jane
Elizabeth.
Jeremiah married Bridget Bridgeman

Elizabeth married Dick Dubois.

There are photos galore in this book and a number of them are of Dodges.

The older ones were un-schooled as it states that they could not read.......... It seems that at least a couple died of black lung...............They were Roman Catholic.

We need to find their ancestors if possible.

Stephen Dodge who became a loyalist during the Revolution, and moved with his family to Nova Scotia, may possibly be the ancestor of Frank who went to Black Donald Creek.

Stephen's son Arthur, b. 9 Nov 1808, had a son, Samuel b. 27 Feb 1833. In turn, he had a son Frank. We have no more info on this Frank, but the time of Samuels birth could very well make it possible that THIS is the FRANK who went to Black Donald Creek (the town) and from whom all of these Dodges descended

Samuel had other children and the only one for whom we have a birth date is LEWIS ANTHONY Dodge, b. 1871. It seems very likely that some of the other children of Samuel would have been born BEFORE 1871 since Samuel would have been 38 yrs. old at that time.

A birth date for Frank Jr., son of Frank, is not stated in the book, The Black Donald Story, but Frank Jr's son, William was born 1904.

If we can surmise that SAMUEL married while in his 20s, that would have been anytime after 1853. If his son FRANK was born in the 50's or early 60s, he could easily have his own child by 1904.

Information from Tracey Sheady - "I have a few names for you that may be of interest to other researchers:
"Edward DODGE dates unknown married Rosalie POTVIN
They had son Joseph DODGE ca 1836. Joseph married a Margaret SHEEDY on 6 January 1860, in Renfrew County, Ontario.
I believe Joseph and Margaret had 4 children, though I only have names for two of them.:
1) Katherine "Kate" Dodge born 17 January 1865 in Renfrew Co married Oliver "Levi" LAPLANTE, and had children Mary Jane, John, Alfred,
William, Henry, Harvey, Ambrose, Angeline, and Margaret.
Kate Dodge second married John CRUISE. Kate died August 1946.

2) Joseph Dodge Jr. born ca 1868 died January 1921 in Admaston Twp, Renfrew Co, Ontario."
