Robert H. Dodge Ph.D.

Robert H. Dodge, Ph.D., age 74, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2004 in Ann Arbor. He was born on September 17, 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri, son of Harry and Jeanne Dodge. On August 6, 1960 he married Donna Broughman in Columbus, Ohio.

He served in the United States Army as a second lieutenant from 1951-53 during the Korean War. A graduate of Arlington High School in 1947, he held a BA in industrial management, and MBA and Ph.D. in marketing from the Ohio State University.

Highly dedicated to his career, he was currently a professor of marketing in the College of Business at Eastern Michigan University. He served as Chair of the marketing department from 1990-2000. Earlier, he had served as Dean of the Williamson School of Business at the Youngstown State University. He was the author or co-author of 17 books and over 80 professional articles and papers on various aspects of marketing.

He began his teaching career at University of Nebraska, Lincoln in 1954. He began teaching at Ohio State University in 1955, followed by Florida State University in 1957, California State University at Los Angeles in 1959, University of Southern California in 1963, and The University of Texas at Arlington in 1964. In 1965, he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship. He then taught at the University of Memphis from 1965-1976.

He went to Northern Illinois University to become Chair of the Marketing Depart ment in 1976 and was named Dean at Youngstown State University in 1979.

At the time of his death, he was writing a new book on Sports Marketing with his long-time colleague, friend and former student, Sam Fullerton.

He was the beloved husband to Donna who lives in Ann Arbor. He is also survived by the other loves of his life, his daughter Melody Dodge of Ann Arbor and son Kevin Dodge and his wife Bonnie(Inglis) Dodge of Northville. Bob is also survived by four grandchildren, Jack Dodge, and newborn triplets Margaret Dodge, Katherine Dodge and Samantha Dodge of Northville.

Visitation and viewing will be Thursday, March 4, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Janowiak Funeral Home, Geer-Logan Chapel, 320 N. Washington, Ypsilanti. The funeral will be at 12:00 Noon Friday, March 5, 2004 in the same location with Father Bernard O'Connor as celebrant. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the H. Robert Dodge Marketing Scholarship Fund in the College of Business at Eastern Michigan University.
