Luther Palmer Dodge|
Since first posting this page of photos , we have received a box of photos and other items that had belonged to Benton's son, Benton. When Benton and his wife died, a friend sent us the box. We will be scanning in the items as time allows, and will be posting many of them. Some of the information on this page was taken from a 'genealogy book' that was included in the box of items. The genealogy was done by Howard E. Miller, and was dedicated to his wife, Mary Louise Dodge Miller, the great grand-daughter of Luther Palmer Dodge. At the time this genealogy was prepared, the knowledge of this line only went back to Thomas Dodge and his wife,Amanda Kingsley. We now know that these are descendents of Benjamin and Tabitha Dodge. This Dodge line is from Tristram Dodge who settled on Block Island, Rhode Island 1660/61

Luther Palmer Dodge was born in New York on 23 Jan 1826. It is not known how long
his family lived in NY but we do know that he moved to Medina County Ohio, sometime
in the 1830s to 1840s. Luther married Mary Jane Stoaks in Medina, Medina Co, Ohio on
29 Mar 1849. The Stoaks were originally from Steuben Co, and Orange Co, New York.
Luther and Mary were living in Delaware Co, Ohio in 1850 and their next door neighbor was George W. Dodge. We believe that this was Luther's brother, George. Samantha Dodge was a sister of Luther who married Noah Shaw.
Delaware Town, County of Delaware, enumerated, by Henry Wodjdon 31 July 1850, Page 170 B, Line25Sometime between 1850 and 1857, Luther moved his family to Detroit Michigan where his three children were born: Willie abt 1857, Joseph 1861 and Curtis abt 1866. At this time, I believe that Luther may have been a Photographer in Detroit. Luther Palmer Dodge died on 20 Oct 1869 in Wayne Michigan which is right next to Detriot Michigan. Age 43.
After his death, I believe that his family moved back to Medina Co, Ohio. The 1870 Census for Medina Co. shows:
