John Dodge of Middle Chinnock, Somerset, England, was the father of William and Richard who came to America in 1629 and 1638, respectively. They settled in what is now, Salem, Massachusetts. Tristram Dodge came to Block Island, Rhode Island in 1660/61. He came from England, via Newfoundland, via Taunton, Massachusetts. We believe that his ancestors were came from Northern England |

Warren Dodge was born in 1845 in New Hampshire, Argyle, Wisconsin; Enlisted: 21 Aug 1862 - 31st Regiment, Wisconsin Infantry, Co. E, Union Army; Rank Induction: Private; He was wounded in battle 24 July 1864 at Atlanta, GA. He was discharged some months later; Rank Discharge: Private; Warren was the son of Samuel and Melina Dodge. By 1850 his parents had moved to Wisconsin. |
Lineage - We have not yet been able to find the ancestry of Warren. Warren Alexander Dodge, born in Ithica, NY, March 18, 1826, where he lived until twelve years of age, when he moved with his parents to Harborcreek, Erie Co, PA. There he lived until seventeen years of age, when he went to Findley's Lake, where he became acquainted with Jane Leach and was united in marriage with her July 6, 1846. They lived in Findley's Lake and raised a family of eleven children, seven girls and four boys. The four boys and three of the girls survive him. When the country was in danger and called for volunteers, he left home and family to the care of Him who careth for all, and enlisted in Company I, 9th New York Calvary, where he served his time and re-enlisted and served his country two years more, participating in some of the worst battles, yet never leaving his post. |

G., 12th Wisconsin Infantry. He enlisted September 23, 1861, and was mustered out July 13, 1865. This company was organized in Madison Wi. It went to Fort Leavenworth KS, and then to Fort Scott KS in March of 1862. It was in Grants Central Mississippi Campaign, and then was involved in guard duty along the Memphis and Charleston Railroad until March of 1863. It was in Vickburg MS May 11, and participated in the seige of Vicksburg May 22-July 4, 1863. Then came the capture of Fort Beauregard Sept. 4 and back to Vicksburg until April 1864. It saw more action until it was disbanded in July 1865, but William was in the hospital from June 21 1864 to Feb.28, 1865. He reenlisted as a veteran on Jan 3, 1864. The Regiment lost 3 officers and 93 enlisted men killed and 3 officers and 224 enlisted men by disease. William contracted "chronic diarrhea caused by hard service and exposure" and was hospitalized in Memphis TN during July 1863. Later he received a hernia on his left side caused by unloading a consignment from a steamboat at Natchz MS on or about Oct. 15, 1863. Other hospitalizations: March 13, 1863 - Jaundice and diarrhea; Nov. 2, 1864 to Dec. 5, 1864 - Chronic diarrhea; Feb. 11, 1865 - Pneumonia; Mar 3, 1865 - Acute bronchitis William was the son of Martin Dodge and Betsey Barnes. His brother, George W. S. was killed in the Civil War at the battle of Belmont, Missouri. His brothers, John and Henry also fought in the war. |

Dodge, b. 6 Oct 1828, Dunham, Cisco Co., Quebec Canada and d. 1 Jun 1887, Imlay City, Lapeer Co., Michigan; Soon after the breaking out of the war, he entered the army as Second Lieutenant in Company F, Seventh Michigan Cavalry, being mustered in in October, 1862. In January, 1863, he was transferred to the United States service, and July 8, 1863, was promoted to the post of First Lieutenant. He served under Custer and was with him in many battles, escaping with but two slight flesh wounds. Our subject was honorably discharged in October, 1864, having resigned his post on account of disability.
