John Dodge of Middle Chinnock, Somerset, England, was the father of William and Richard who came to America in 1629 and 1638, respectively. They settled in what is now, Salem, Massachusetts. Tristram Dodge came to Block Island, Rhode Island in 1660/61. He came from England, via Newfoundland, via Taunton, Massachusetts. We believe that his ancestors were came from Northern England |

Lineage - Tristram Dodge of Block Island Abimael Dodge, b. 21 Aug. 1760 and d. abt. 1817. Solders and Sailers states that Abmael was in Able Dinsmore's Co. as a Pvt, Col. Ruggles Woodbridge Regiment. Enlisted Aug. 1777, discharged Nov. 29 1777; Served 3mos 22 days travel included, with northern army, reported 185 miles from home. There is some contention that he died this location possibly in 1809-1810. Some notes say he was in Canaadaiga New York in 1817. and was killed by a log falling on him while working in the wood. He was a joiner and sold out his house, barn and 96 acres in Beverly, Ipswich and Wenham, to Jacob Dodge, in December, 1766, and moved to Sedgwick, ME, where his oldest brother already lived. Abner was the son of Jonah Dodge, Jr. and Mary Edwards. |
Lineage - John Dodge, Middle Chinnock, England, through Richard Abraham Dodge,(also given Abram), (Person #382, pg. 118, Joseph Thompson Dodge, Essex County Dodge Genealogy, Vol. 1) born 17 Aug 1740 in Ipswich; a merchant of Ipswich, took an active part in the cause of Independence. Upon receiving the news of the battle of Bunker Hill, he monnted his horse and rode for Charlestown. Just as he reached the battleground, his horse fell and expired from hard riding. He served as Captain, was in several battles, and subsequently received a Colonel's commission. "Orderly Book Kept by Capt. Abraham Dodge of Ipswich, January 1, 1776 to August 1, 1776." Lineage - John Dodge, Middle Chinnock, England, through William Abraham Dodge, born 17 March 1729/30 in Wenham, Essex Co., Massachusetts ( Person #193, pg. 52, Joseph Thompson Dodge, Essex County Dodge Genealogy, Vol. 1 and pg. 477, Vol. 2) and d. 6 Sep 1810, New Marlborough, Massachusetts was a trooper in the Revolutionary Army. This is confirmed by the Beverly Archives of Mass. , which show that he served in Capt. Enoch Noble's Co., from 29 Jun to 21 Jul 1777 and 21 Jul till Aug 1777 in Capt John King's Co. At that time he was 47 years of age. Abraham was the son of John Dodge and Ruth White. Abraham's brother, Thomas , and three nephews, Thomas Jr. , Reuben, and John also served. also served.
