John Dodge of Middle Chinnock, Somerset, England, was the father of William and Richard who came to America in 1629 and 1638, respectively. They settled in what is now, Salem, Massachusetts.
Tristram Dodge came to Block Island, Rhode Island in 1660/61. He came from England, via Newfoundland, via Taunton, Massachusetts. We believe that his ancestors were came from Northern England

Jonathan Snow; residence, Brookfield (also given New Braintree); engaged for town of Brookfield (also given New Braintree); joined Capt. Harwood's co., Col. Nixon's regt.; term, 3 years; also, Private, Capt. William Toogood's co., Col. Thomas Nixon's regt.; Continental [p.839] Army pay accounts for service from March 15, 1777, to Dec. 31, 1779; reported deserted, absent from Dec. 17, 1778, to May 10, 1779, 4 mos. 23 days; also, (late) Capt. Toogood's (5th) co., Col. Nixon's (5th) regt.; muster roll for May, 1779, dated Highlands; enlisted March 15, 1777; joined from desertion May 10, 1779; reported transferred to light infantry; also, Capt. Thomas Barns's (Light Infantry) co., 6th regt.; pay abstract for June and July, 1779; reported transferred to (late) Capt. Toogood's co. July 1, 1779; also, (late) Capt. Toogood's co., 6th regt.; pay abstract for June and July, 1779; reported joined from infantry July 1, 1779; also, (late) Capt. Toogood's co., Col. Nixon's (6th) regt.; pay abstracts for Aug.-Oct., 1779; also, Capt. Benjamin Heywood's (5th) co., Col. Thomas was the son of John Dodge and Ruth White. His brother
Abraham and three of his sons, Thomas Jr., (info below), John and Reuben also served.

Descriptive list of men raised to reinforce Continental Army for the term of 6 months, agreeable to resolve of June 5, 1780, returned as received of Justin Ely, Commissioner, by Brig. Gen. John Glover, at Springfield, July 19, 1780; age, 26 yrs.; stature, 5 ft. 8 in.; complexion, ruddy; engaged for town of Brookfield; marched to camp July 19, 1780, under command of Capt. Clark; also, list of men raised for the 6 months service and returned by Brig. Gen. Paterson as having passed muster in a return dated Camp Totoway, Oct. 25, 1780; also, pay roll for 6 months men raised by the town of Brookfield for service in the Continental Army during 1780; marched July 17, 1780; discharged Dec. 6, 1780; service, 4 mos. 27 days; also, descriptive list of men raised in Worcester Co. agreeable to resolve of Dec. 2, 1780, as returned by Seth Washburn, Superintendent for said county; Capt. Hamilton's co., Col. Rice's regt.; age, 27 yrs.; stature, 5 ft. 7 in.; complexion, dark; occupation, farmer; engaged for town of Brookfield; engaged Jan. 30, 1781; term, 3 years; also, receipt dated Brookfield, April 5, 1781, for bounty paid said Dodge by Benjamin Felton, on behalf of the 3d Precinct in the town of Brookfield, to serve in the Continental Army for the term of 3 years. Thomas was the son of Thomas Dodge and Mary Adams. His father, Thomas, (directly above), an uncle, Abraham, and two of his brothers, John and Reuben also served.

Lineage - John Dodge of Middle Chinnock, England, through Richard
Thomas Dodge (1763-1842) applied for a pension in 1832 from Beverly, Massachusetts for service as a Private under Captain John Dodge and Colonel Jacob Gerrish. He was born in Wenham, Massachusetts; died in Beverly, Massachusetts.
He was the son of Amos Dodge and Sarah Dodge.

Dodge, Thomas. Private, Capt. Ephraim Stearns's co., Col. Ezra Wood's regt.; enlisted June 11, 1778; discharged Jan. 31, 1779; service, 8 mos. 1 day, travel included; company raised for defence of North river.
